Did the announce a big Winter show?? (I'm going to Japan end of Nov - December and would LOVE to see Shachi!!)

Nothing has been announced so far. For the past few years they've been at both the Unborde Christmas Party (featuring other Unborde acts like Kyary Pamyu Pamyu and RIP SLYME) and Countdown Japan, a large music festival held at the end of the year. It's unusual for them to have nothing going on, though, so there will at least be some promotional events or performances at other festivals or mega-concerts, if they don't add another tour or a large concert of their own.

This one is the Warner Music Direct ONLY Box Set. You can only get it through the Warner Music Direct store, and it comes with both the regular and limited edition versions of the EP, a bonus DVD with a documentary of MakuHollywood, and an LP-sized jacket panel. The difference between the other versions is just the Blu-ray.

The, 豪華盤, or fancy version, includes a documentary of the show and a live CD. The regular version only has the concert footage. 

 

That said, it's up to you if you want to documentaries or not, since that's really what you're paying for. I personally really like them, since they're always pretty different and focus on different aspects of the show (like Budokan's doc was about Yuzuki overcoming her lack of confidence, the first Syachi Summer's doc was about Honoka's solo and them playing around with water guns backstage at Yaon). However, they tend to be hit-or-miss in terms of whether you can enjoy them without Japanese. Sometimes there's footage that you can enjoy regardless of whether or not you know what they're saying, but in others you wouldn't have any idea what's happening without knowing the language.

I have decided to really give it a good attempt to try to learn, like and support stardust idol groups ..

Don't feel any pressure to get into all of them. They keep adding more groups, after all. Still, the music is good, production quality is high, they've never had any major scandals, and they're all pretty good at interacting with the fans, so you might be quite happy following them all. Maybe you should just follow yellow in every group to make it easier, since you're already almost halfway there.

And the girl in pink which I find something attractive about her look..
So I was watching their performance video.. then the girl in Yellow sang.. and I reseted everything..
I think I will take my time on this one

At the very least there's ample material available for both Ebichu and Momoclo to make your decision easier; most of them have had somewhat established characters for quite some time now, whereas we know very, very little about Batten.

So Syachihocall is now out on Android (through QooApps if you're not in Japan), and I thought I'd do a little write-up about it. 

 

First, here are all the reasons why you wouldn't want to download it:

 

It's still kind of buggy. It's prone to freezing, and especially to crashing. A lot of times it crashes in really awful spots, causing you to lose stamina spent on loading a track that caused it to crash. This is also inconsistent, so there are times when it will crash 3 times in a row but then it will be fine for the next half hour. It also doesn't necessarily save the changes you make to your avatar or your team, seems to be pretty random if it does or not, which is kind of annoying. If you get frustrated easily by this kind of thing, don't download it yet.

 

It's a power hog. It uses a lot of data so you have to be on Wi-fi, it uses a lot of RAM so it might slow your phone down or the game itself might even slow down depending on the song (and length, I found) that you're doing, causing issues, and it uses a ton of power so your battery goes down while your phone temperature goes up. I don't recommend playing it unless you're sitting somewhere near a charger.

 

It's all in Japanese. This is obvious, and while I think that you could probably get by without knowing Japanese, you definitely might miss some parts of the game or get confused. I'd say you at least need a working knowledge of kana to make your way through most of the game's features.

 

However, here are all the amazing things about it. Spoiler for looooonnnggggg.

I wanted to play this not just because it was Syachi, but also because it looked like they put a whole lot of work into it to make it different from other idol games. It really reflects in the gameplay and makes all the downsides so much more tolerable. I'll do a rundown of features based on the gameplay.

 

When you first start the game, you pick your oshimen. You can pick everyone or just one or any combination of members, which causes those specific members to level up as you play through the game, making their cards stronger (I think? Haven't quite figured out that mechanic yet). All the members are in animated avatar form, which is really quite cute. 

 

Then, your tutorial leads you to the rhythm game, the first game mode. This is a very basic one-finger tapping system so even if you're not great at rhythm games, this is probably easier than Love Live or DDR or whatever rhythm game you're most experienced with. The main selling point of the game is the fact that they use live footage for the games, which I didn't think would be that big of a deal, but honestly, it makes a difference. Your tapping essentially controls your cheering as a fan in the audience while they perform the song, so while the rhythm is based on the song, it's also based on the wota chants, which is a fun little mechanic. Your audience section, the one you're controlling by tapping, is waving glowsticks in your oshimen color(s), and the animation for these glowsticks will change depending on the nature of the wota chants, between waving, chanting, jumping, and furi-copy. While the actual gameplay isn't that intense, the details in how the game reacts to the song makes it much more engaging.

 

There is another game mode, the live game. This one is substantially more complicated than the first mode, but I actually didn't find it much more difficult to play. In this one, you're actively changing the color of your own glowstick with one thumb and tapping along the rhythm with the other. The number of glowsticks available to change between increases with your level of difficulty, so with easy you only have 3 colors and then it increases between medium and hard difficulties. 

 

The basic mechanics for playing the game should be pretty familiar: you have a stamina bar that replenishes based on time passed, and you use stamina to play each song. The harder the difficulty or the longer the song (you can choose between the short and long versions; short does through the first chorus, long does the whole song), the more stamina you use. There is an option to receive a notification when your stamina bar is completely full again, so you can turn it off when it's empty to do other things until it's full again, which is nice. The cards you use on your team are based on the members and come in either avatar form or an actual live picture, and each has different stats, skills, and an orientation. The orientation is divided betwen misokatsu, tebasaki, and ebi-fry (duh). These work in a rock-paper-scissors pattern, so if a song is of the tebasaki orientation, misokatsu will have a boost during that song while ebi-fry will be at a disadvantage. The chart for this is on the live map so you don't have to try and remember that nonsense. You also have an HP bar during the games that goes down when you miss marks and you die when you lose it all, etc.

 

What's different about playing the game, however, is that it's divided up into missions on a tour. You choose your city on the map of Japan first, and then it brings up a list of missions for you to accomplish. Accomplish the crucial ones and you get a Syachi marker on that town, showing completion. Completion missions, usually harder than the others, have to be unlocked by completing a certain number of other missions listed under the city. These vary from completing certain songs to completing certain lengths or difficulties to getting certain combos. Fulfilling these minor missions gives you certain rewards in addition to score ranking rewards (percentage of notes hit good or perfect, highest combo, overall score), some of which are really good. Completing a city gives you bigger rewards, obviously, but you can pick and choose which missions you want to do to complete it. If you want to just relax and play the game however you want without the missions telling you which songs to pick, you can do a training mode and you're free to play however you'd like.

 

Rewards come in the form of four forms: basic currency, which you get from playing songs and making friends and you can use it to do a coin gacha; premium currency, which is rarer and only comes from high ranking rewards or completing top missions but can be used for a premium gacha and other in-game purchases; gacha tickets, which come from completing missions and can be used in sets of 5 to draw from the premium gacha; and gacha coupons, which entitle you to one premium gacha draw per ticket. The game sends you notifications when you can draw from the gacha based on your coupons or tickets, which is a nice feature. 

 

There are several kinds of gacha mostly divided between card gacha and member gacha. The premium card gacha has rare cards only (rarity is between 1-5 hearts, I think) at 3-5 hearts, but it looks as though this gacha is based on current events and promotions and may not always be available. The coin card gacha has cards of all rarity, but also common cards, so your chances of getting a rare card are lower. The member gacha is all premium, but it has some interesting options. It's mostly about the avatar-type cards, which means that you can either get the rarer avatar cards with different skills or you can acquire additional costume pieces for your own personal avatar (your oshimen) that increase stats. The member gacha is also available to play for only one specific member, which I thought was cool. So if I just wanted to focus on getting Yuzu cards and Yuzu accessories, I could use my premium currency to do her specific gacha. The coupons and tickets can only be used on the card event gacha and the general member gacha (not individuals). 

 

The cards can also be leveled up and get their skills up, as you might expect. Skills are boosted through merging cards of the same skill, but the level system is a little more unique. You have to go to a specific section on the member page to essentially "burn" your cards, turning them into Syachihoko Soul points. The game also has cards that are only used to give soul points, so you don't have to worry about burning through cards you still might want just to level up. You burn them to get the points, which are saved, and then, whenever you choose to, you can go and level up characters using your soul points, which increases their stats of HP, power, and appeal. 

 

What else... oh, the premium currency can be used for multiple things, which is why it's the one you'd actually spend money on. You can use it to do the gacha, but you can also use it to refill your stamina (probably to revive you if you faint during a live, too), increase the number of cards you can carry, increase the number of friends you can have, and, perhaps most importantly, you can use to buy oshi-cam footage to use in the songs. Yes, instead of watching the general live footage for Otome Juken Sensou, I can watch just watch Yuzu the whole time and see her make faces while Chiyu does her power line. I thought this was a really nice touch to add, even if it might not be the most valuable option for some players. 

 

All in all, there are just a lot of nice details and touches to show that they didn't just want to make Love Live 3.0 (the Hello!Project rhythm game is essentially Love Live). There are cute animations for the gacha and the gameplay, they have notifications for new blog entries and important Syachi stuff, and it's generally pretty delightful to look at. I also personally really like that they implemented a coupon/ticket system for the gacha, since this allows you to feel like you don't have to spend your premium currency on the gacha if perhaps you'd rather have more oshi footage. Love Live in particular is really, really bad in terms of how they handle currency (common currency is virtually useless after a certain level of play and they're way too stingy with free premium currency as a means to make you purchase it), so I like that this game at least makes me like I could have fun without feeling pressure to hoard my premium currency and only spend it on one thing. Even if they end up being just as stingy with the premium currency as Love Live is, the coupons at least make me feel like I'm making progress on getting new cards, which Love Live does not.

I've noticed that doing the color-changing mode (which you have to manually select every time you play a song) doesn't crash nearly as often as the other mode, so if you can get by playing that way most of the time, it should work until they can patch it. They had similar issues with the iOS release, so I assume they'll do maintenance at some point soon.

I couldn't play Syachihocall at all last night, it kept crashing right before the song starts and I lost all my energy. It was so frustrating. But for some reason it worked fine today. I really like the how in the concert footage they would sometimes just focus on one member.

Did you try playing in the color changing mode? That has yet to crash for me, for the regular tapping crashes half the time. You can change game modes on the screen where you pick your song, on the right, on the top. I've been trying to play that as much as possible until they go under for maintenance today or tomorrow, which will hopefully provide some resolution for that. 

 

You can buy (using the premium currency, the gold coins) solo-cam footage for certain songs. In the tutorial they compel you to buy one so you get a freebie, but you can buy others, too. What's interesting is that the solo shots can also have different orientations from the original performance. 

 

There are a lot of things I like about the game, much more so than other rhythm games I've played. I like you play as a fan and not a manager or a member and that the other players also just feel like other fans with different oshi. I like the gameplay is mission-oriented so I don't ever feel like I'm just piddling away trying to rack up points for no real reason, and I like that the missions slowly expose you to different difficulties and challenges so that there's no sense of being overwhelmed. The first event, Nao's Birthday, is coming up, so we'll see how that goes.

 

And just send me a PM or post on here if you need me to try and interpret anything in the game. I can't promise anything since there are still some things I don't quite understand, either, but I think I understand better than most.
